Severe hair loss which begins at adolescence and leads to intense loss for the same short period of time is premature hair loss. It is found in people aged over 20 years.
Symptoms of hair loss occurs suddenly and dramatically. In severe cases, hair loss can be so intense that leads to the typical male baldness at the age of 30.
Reasons for premature hair loss
The causes of premature hair loss are still not well understood. However, the patient usually has a family, a history of hereditary hair loss, regardless of the line of mother or father, which means that there is a genetic predisposition to hair loss.
In addition, levels of androgen hormones, particularly DHT raised. Dihydrotestosterone acts on genetic “the sensitive” hair follicles, which determines the gradual conversion of the terminal, solid fiber and the lower end in fibers (thin, un pigmented)
Studies show that the size of the dermal papilla through which feeds the fiber dictates the size of the fiber which is formed, and in alopecia androgenetika some of the cells of the dermal papilla die due to the action of DHT, resulting in papillary reduced and hair is thinner.
It is particularly important that the level of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which transforms testosterone into dihydrotestosterone in individuals with premature hair loss is higher than those without hair loss.
Also interesting is the fact that the level of 5-alpha reductase in the occipital region (behind the ears) is lower than is in the frontal area, the valves, which typically occurs and hair loss.
These findings suggest the importance of 5-alpha reductase inhibitors as a cause of male type of hair loss.
Looks like premature hair loss?
Hair follicles in people who previously losing hair gradually lose its function and reducing their activity, forming thinner and weaker fibers. Anagen phase (phase formation) of the fiber is short and the number of hairs in telogen phase (phase decline).
Moreover, there is thinning of the skin of the scalp and hair pluck easily due to failure of the roots. In severe cases, in the final stages follicles no longer produce hair.
Hair loss usually begins in the front line of hair, which gradually raises. At the same time, the hair on the crown of the head is becoming weaker irretrievably lost and leads to baldness.
